Growing up in a super-literate world

Here I am, only 19 (and a half) months old, and I'm learning my alphabet!
This is a video of me saying the letters after Daddy. (Except for C, I jumped the gun on that one and instead of repeating B just went right on to C! My Grandma Ward works on the alphabet with me, so I've got those first few letters down!)

Just a couple clarifications:
  • When I get to N, what I say seems to make me think of the word "Nana", so then I get stuck on that a little.
  • It appears that Daddy needs to work a little on his alphabet too -- he forgot Q!
  • When I keep pointing to the camera and saying "baby", that's because Mami lets me look at the pictures we've taken - what did children do before there were digital cameras?!
  • And my mother the linguist is fascinated by my clearly still-developing vocal tract, how hard I have to work to make some sounds and how some sounds still don't come out just right. (But she's still really impressed with how smart I am!)

A bad hair day from start to finish

I woke up Thursday with this crazy bedhead style that wouldn't stay put.

And then in the bath I decided I'd help wash my own hair (with a washcloth) and ended up giving myself yet another interesting do.

Gosh, I hope tomorrow is a better hair day!

Twinkle twinkle / Brilla brilla -- the sing-along version

As you know, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is among my favorite songs these days. Mami sings it in Spanish, and Daddy sings it in English, and we do the sign language signs to it also, so it's understandable that I'm perhaps a little confused about the words.
But as you can see, I can't get enough of it. And I usually sing along to at least a syllable or two of each line, in one language or another. (Although I continue to call it Brilla brilla.)

The language doesn't matter, what's important is that this little car can play the song over and over and over again, no matter how tired of it Mami and Daddy get!

Back 'er up!

Part of my job in the mornings is to get the chairs set up just right for breakfast. We bring in a chair for daddy and my high chair so that we can eat our yogurt in the kitchen. I'm big enough to help push the chairs now, and when I make them go backwards I say, "beep beep beep"!

Checking on my progress

I always like to see how I'm doing by looking in the baby books.

This one tells me what I should be learning to do and say, and when.

So far, so good!

And of course I have to check my weight too!

Everything looks good!

Resli a go-go!

... always on the move ...

My paper route

Daddy and I still go out to get the paper every morning, it's one of my favorite parts of our morning routine. I look at the dogs walking by and listen to the birds singing and I'm (almost) always very happy.

This morning I decided to carry my cup of water and a diaper out with me, so I didn't have my hands free for the paper - Daddy had to carry that - but I was still very happy!

And, by the way, Go Gators!

More great Gator gear!

My friend Erica gave me this cheerleader outfit so I can help cheer the gators to victory. Now that it's getting a little cooler I can wear it before important game days. This will surely help the Gators beat Kentucky on Saturday night!

Why I like my daycare

Mrs. Nany, the teacher in the Infant room, told us that she's moving to the K2 room, so won't be with me anymore. (The infant room, where I started, and K1, where I am now, share an adjoining room, so even though I'm in Mrs. Mayra's room, I still see Mrs. Nany every day.) She made collages for all her babies, but said that since she'd had me in her room at first she feels like I'm one of "hers" too.
So she made me this adorable laminated collage of pictures, stickers, captions, etc.

Isn't that sweet? Aren't I a lucky little girl?

A budding scholar?

Mami has a lot of articles to read for a project she's working on. My first reaction when I saw them was to say "Bla, bla, bla", which is what I say whenever there aren't enough pictures for me.

But then I saw that she really was struggling with them, so I thought I'd help her out a little by pointing out some of the most important aspects of each article.

They're really not that bad, it's just a question of underlining the right things! Posted by Picasa

Well, I'm outta here.

Sunday morning I grabbed my purse and my keys, said "Bye!" to anyone who would listen, and headed for the front door. Surprisingly, the keys don't actually OPEN that door, but at least I tried! Posted by Picasa

Drinking from a big-girl cup

We went to a restaurant for lunch on Saturday and I drank my milk out of a real big-girl cup! And I did fine, until I tried to shake it up and down - for that, the sippy cups are better. Posted by Picasa

Fun hair toys

I just love playing with Mami's hair stuff. She came home from swimming and had her hair all wet and pulled back, but I took the clip out and put it in my hair - see it? It's especially funny because now we both have crazy hair! Posted by Picasa

Sleeping like a baby?

When Daddy came in to tuck me in after I was asleep last night, this is how he found me. Totally zonked (you can't hear the way I was snoring through the pictures, but you can imagine!)... I didn't wake up when the flash went off or when Daddy covered me up. Maybe that is what they mean by "sleeping like a baby"! Posted by Picasa

My favorite thing to do

Whenever it gets really quiet and Mami and Daddy are worried about what trouble I'm getting in to, they run around to find me and almost always end up catching me here, innocently reading my favorite books. Why do they think I'm always going to be doing something else? Posted by Picasa

The Resli Snack-O-Matic

Cheerios on one side, Goldfish on the other. I don't think any comments are necessary... Its coolness speaks for itself. Posted by Picasa

Quality time with Daddy

Daddy and I like to sit and chat on the fireplace ledge. We come to sit here every day. Daddy tells me about his day,

and I tell him some jokes to make him laugh! Posted by Picasa

Big shoes to fill

My Daddy has very big feet,

and very large shoes to fill! Posted by Picasa

19 months and counting

I turned 19 months old on Friday! I must be getting tired of these monthly pictures because it's getting more and more difficult to get a good picture of me with my sign.

I kept trying to run away,

or play with the sign.

I definitely was not happy when Daddy made me sit still for the picture. So I guess this is what 19 months looks like! Posted by Picasa

My hair is so long...

... I can put it in a ponytail! Sure, there's still none on the sides or top, but the back keeps growing and growing. Posted by Picasa

Big dog

Look at this big stuffed dog I got!

He's bigger than I am, it's easier to use him as a pillow than to try to carry him around! Posted by Picasa

I got a boo-boo

I got a (very minor) boo-boo playing today. I learned to say boo-boo, so I walked around for hours whining about my "injury". The irony of course is that it was a tiny tiny little scratch that barely broke the skin, on the knuckle of my right hand. In this video Mami reminds me about it so that I'll say boo-boo, but you can see that I can't even remember what hand it's on!

It clearly doesn't concern me at all, unless I want to say boo-boo and get some good sympathy! But Mami gave me a bandaid to put on it, which was good for about 3 minutes of sympathy and then I took it off and put it on my shoe to play with.

I guess I'm healed!

The pros and cons of sugar cookies

I had a great big sugar cookie for dessert the other day.
"Yummy yummy," as I say!

The problem with these cookies, though, is that they're very messy.
Look at all those sprinkles everwhere...

I couldn't enjoy the cookie because I was so busy picking up the sprinkles and either trying to put them back on the cookie or handing them to Mami one by one!

(Oh yes, I am my mother's daughter!)

Gameday!

The Gators play their first game of the season today against Southern Mississippi!
Yesterday I wore my cheerleader outfit to school, and I showed everyone how to do the gator chomp.

Today, gameday, I'm wearing as many gators as I can find... shirt, shorts, socks, you name it, I've got it!

And I'm practicing my touchdown! celebration so that I'll be ready for tonight!

GO GATORS!
